Jacobs are the Largest Independent Photographic Retailer in the UK, operating out of 19 stores across the country, from Edinburgh to London.

Established for over 75 years, Jacobs is a family run business whose personal service gains great customer loyalty amongst photographic enthusiasts and professionals alike. Jacobs sell a huge range of Digital SLRs, Digital Cameras, Binoculars and Accessories, in our shops and online, through our highly trained and knowledgeable staff, who are prepared to go the extra mile to satisfy their customer's needs.

Our B2B department continues to grow as we offer a personal service which is second to none, inspiring loyalty in our business customers, including Press, Purchasing Organisations, Picture Agencies, Police Forces, Schools and Government Departments.


Mr Cecil Jacobs opens his first chemists shop on Melton Road in Leicester. The first Jacobs photographic department is opened in the basement of the new Granby Street shop in Leicester's City Centre. The third chemist shop is opened in Leicester, followed by two more in the 1970’s. Son of the founder, Mr A. D. Jacobs, joins the company, leading to a change of direction towards his passion for photography. The huge Jacobs Photographic Superstore opens on London Road, Leicester with 14,000 sq ft of floor space given over to the rapidly expanding fields of photography and home video. The first Jacobs store outside of Leicester is opened, in Birmingham. Jacobs expands to 11 stores, ranging from London and Bristol to Manchester and Liverpool, ideally poised to join the coming revolution of digital photography. Opening in time for the Millennium is the company’s New Oxford Street branch with the renowned Pro Lounge. Mr E. B. Jacobs, third generation, joins the family business after graduating from Manchester Business School. His passion for marketing propelled Jacobs into ecommerce and the establishment of Jacobs as the UKs Largest Independent Photographic Retailer. Jacobs’ Cannon Street London branch opens. The opening of the Cardiff branch sees our first foray outside of England. Our London presence doubles with the opening of branches in Chelsea and Westminster. Jacobs returns to Leeds with a new store, followed by our first shop North of the border in Edinburgh, bringing the Jacobs family up to eighteen. Our Sheffield store is relocated, moving to a larger premises in the busy town centre near the city's Peace Gardens and expanding outside of England, the second store in Scotland is opened in Glasgow.
